The Adventure of a Lifetime
When Mannat completed school in Prune, India, she set a goal of expanding her horizons and learning more about the world. Mannat explains that her parents taught her the importance of appreciating the different cultures and traditions; igniting her interest in learning different languages and better understanding the world.
After researching schools in the United States, Mannat was referred to Southeast Missouri State University by a Southeast alum. She ultimately chose Southeast because of the variety of courses offered, the diverse campus and the scholarship opportunities.
After declaring a double major in Spanish and Global Studies, Mannat set another goal: study abroad and put her Spanish skills, established at Southeast, into practice.
Mannat was soon packing her bags for León, Spain. León proved to be the adventure of a lifetime. Mannat improved her Spanish skills and studied the different cultures within Spain. Mannat reflects on some of her favorite travel memories.
"Every day my classmates and I would go to a small cafe nearby for breakfast. We would eat the same thing every day—Spanish tortilla, with a cup of coffee or freshly squeezed orange juice. During the evenings we would go out for tapas. I also adapted to the dinner timings in Spain, which were usually 10:00 or 11:00pm! 2:00-3:00pm was siesta time for the entire city!"
Mannat's adventure would not have been possible without scholarship support from loyal donors. This support has helped turn students' aspirations and drive into reality. This support helps them become alumni who improve the world around us.
"I am extremely grateful that I have had the opportunity to study abroad. Through my study abroad experiences I have become more confident. I have gained not only knowledge, but lifelong relationships, and a better understanding of the world."
